A New Viral Coinfection: SARS-CoV-2 Pneumonia and Cytomegalovirus Pneumonitis in a Renal Transplant Recipient

چکیده

SARS-CoV-2 has caused a global pandemic of an acute respiratory illness known as COVID-19. Patients with solid organ transplants receiving chronic immunosuppressive therapy are at risk severe disease by opportunistic pathogens, including cytomegalovirus (CMV). We present the case renal transplant recipient presenting hypoxic failure because COVID-19, whose course was complicated ganciclovir-resistant CMV pneumonitis.

Desquamative interstitial pneumonia associated with concurrent cytomegalovirus and Aspergillus pneumonia in a renal transplant recipient.

Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Aspergillus fumigatus are opportunistic pathogens that cause fatal infections in graft recipients mainly 1–6 months after transplantation, the period of maximal immunosuppression required for the prevention of acute graft rejection. A CMV infection has been known to increase the risk of fungal infection in an immunocompromised host, and concurrent CMV andAspergillus pn...

Unusual manifestation of cutaneous Leishmaniasis in a renal transplant recipient

Cutaneous leishmaniasis may present as unusual manifestations in renal transplant patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy. This misleading presentation, may delay the diagnosis and treatment. Moreover special caution must be taken in renal transplant recipients because of possible interactions between antimony compounds and cyclosporine metabolites. We report a 45-year old man with 5 years...

Sirolimus-induced interstitial pneumonitis in a renal transplant recipient.

Sirolimus is a recently licensed immunosuppressant for organ transplantation that has been used as basic, adjuvant, or maintenance therapy for prevention of organ rejection. Well-known side effects of this agent are hyperlipidemia and bone marrow suppression. Interstitial pneumonitis is a relatively newly described adverse effect of the drug. A 43-year-old female recipient of a cadaveric kidney...

Sirolimus-induced interstitial pneumonitis in a renal transplant recipient

A 64 year-old man, who received a renal transplant in 1988 for end-stage renal disease due to chronic pyelonephritis, developed persistent dry cough, progressive dyspnoea, fatigue and fever, 2 weeks after he was shifted from cyclosporine to sirolimus for recurrent squamous cell carcinomas. Physical examination was unremarkable except for mild fever. Moderate acute phase reaction (CRP: 5.2 mg/dl...

Rhodococcus equi pneumonia in a live related renal transplant recipient.

Rhodococcus equi has emerged as a serious pathogen in immunocompromised patients, including solid organ transplant recipients. Primary pulmonary involvement is the most common presentation. However, this opportunistic pathogen is often not considered in the differential diagnosis of pneumonia in transplant recipients. Furthermore, in cultures, Rhodococcus can be misinterpreted by microbiologist...
